Nineteen of Medvedev's 21 victories have been earned on hardcourt

A revitalized Daniil Medvedev claimed his first championship for over two years with success over Frenchman Moutet in the competition championship match.

Medvedev, a former number one, has endured a difficult year, achieving just one match at the Grand Slams and suffering a difficult moment at the New York tournament.

His unpredictability on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serve in particular - caused him dropping out of the top ten and ultimately splitting with former mentor his previous coach.

Currently working with his coach and his other coach, he has steadily improved in the recent weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought competitive win over opponent Moutet.

It is his initial trophy since the Italian tournament and initial on a hard surface since that period of the previous year.

The win also indicates the Russian has won 21 championships at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"It's the first time I'm at a competition with my two daughters together, so to get a title is particularly special," stated ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my child Victoria, because the initial championship I won when my child her name was born was for her."

The tennis star, the past champion, had been defeated in his past six title deciders, including in the German tournament previously this season.

His retrieving strategy and recurring outbursts on the playing surface had led some to wonder if his ability to compete at the elite level was concluded.

However the 29-year-old has made changes in recent weeks, making an effort to approach the net and play positively, supported by an better service.

Medvedev recovered from a disadvantage in the initial set against the challenging opponent, taking 4 of the last five points to take the lead.

The pair swapped service breaks in the following set before the challenger, bidding for his maiden tour title, took control to force a third set.

Moutet saved four initial chances in a tight third set before the Russian broke to that score to secure the win.

Fittingly, Medvedev earned the title with a point at the net, with the Frenchman incapable to handle a return after a lengthy match.
